Year of the Snake? No!

Good morning everyone and happy Sunday! I'm writing this blog later than I anticipated... but I've had some kitty sickness and a pounding headache this past week.

So, let's get into it!

I was speaking with a client the other day about the theme of this New Year and most importantly the year of the snake. Anyone who's read the bible, knows that a snake is not typically a good thing. In fact, the snake is often seen as a symbol for Satan, lying, manipulation and evil. So, what does the year of the snake actually mean? With most things in life, there is a good side and a bad side. Nothing is wholly bad or wholly good. So, what are some good attributes of a snake. A snake is often associated with being cunning and sly, which can also mean they are wise, resourceful and adaptable. A good quality of a snake is its ability to adapt to its surroundings, the ability to shed old skin and thus let go of the old and embrace the new, while also looking for creative solutions to enhance and transform. People who have traits of the snake are often very intelligent, mysterious, deep, wise, independent and adaptable. They are continuously growing and moving, unhindered by the things of the past that can often hold us back and keep us from growing.

Personally, I wish I was more like a snake in this respect. Though I possess some of the attributes, I do tend to hold onto the past and find it difficult to move forward. I do adapt when I have to, because I'm often in survival mode, but not enough to turn this adaptability into a lucrative success. How do you connect with the year of the snake in your own life?

On another note, the year of the snake isn't actually what I planned on writing about for my New Years Blog. Initially, I wanted the theme of this year to be about embracing Joy! What does it mean to embrace Joy in your life? For me, it means to Live in the Moment.

Enjoy the people in your life, let go of anger, be kind.

Time is so fleeting, and it is important to spend time doing the things you love and things that enrich your life. We all have days that are pretty shitty, but the truth is, no day is a waste... every day we are alive is a gift. We should soak up and enjoy every moment, both the good and the bad; and embrace every experience, even the bad ones.

Be kind to those around you; everyone is fighting a battle and struggling in some kind of way: be kind. Let go of anger, anger destroys joy. Embrace opportunity. Connect with others as often as you can and take time for selfcare and the things that you love.

"Think back and replay your year... if it doesn't bring you tears of either joy or sadness consider it wasted."

Happy New Year!!!
