Happy weekend everyone. I hope you’re having a great Sunday so far. I’m still unpacking from my trip and trying to get back to normal life… but I’m missing Arizona already and not wanting to get out of my vacation state of mind. In my blog yesterday I talked about my hot air balloon adventure and today I wanted to share my experience at the Grand Canyon. I definitely change my routine when I’m on vacation; I spent half my time at the condo where I had my own room with a bed and access to a pool and hot tub, while the other half of the time I spent at the house, where there was a pool and I had my own private couch in a cute little alcove. My brother, sister-in-law and I spent the night at the condo before getting up early the next morning to make the long drive to the Grand Canyon. We got up around 6am and began our four hour drive; nothing a little Starbucks triple shot espresso couldn’t cure 🥴 I have to say that it was so nice spending time with my brother Shaun and sister-in-law Rachel. I think I spend the most time with them out of everyone in my family and I just love their spirit for adventure! They are always wanting to explore new areas, hike trails and see the world. I loved the mini road trip, great conversations, and the sweet tunes along the way! It was one of those moments when you look back and just smile at the time you had and the people you shared it with 💕
The Grand Canyon surprised me a little bit by the way it looked just like the pictures you see everywhere. There was a nice path you could walk along the edge of the Canyon, that I thought would be absolutely perfect for sunset runs. I was also surprised that there was a calm feeling surrounding us; not like most tourist attractions that focus on quick money and gullible people. The Grand Canyon had a way about it that still seemed untouched by the world and untouched by the greed of humans. There were still a lot of people taking pictures beside the Canyon, but there was a civility about the way people acted, they seemed respectful of the majestic beauty around them. It made me wonder at the smallness of humans and how we should respect and honor the beauty that surrounds us. It has been said that human beings are different and special in the way that we can be moved to tears by a sunset, marvel at the stars at night and have feelings of awe and humility at the achievements of our past. Feels of wonder and awe define us as humans and help us connect with the world around us in a meaningful way.
“Wonder is more than just a feeling; it is a seed from which our greatest treasures grow.”
Even though the drive was long, it was totally worth the trip! The only thing I regret is not taking a shot of Fireball when we looked out over the edge of the Canyon... maybe next time.
Aside from riding in a hot air balloon, seeing the Grand Canyon was another thing I wanted to check off my bucket list. What’s on your bucket list and what have you already check off? Share your thoughts and story in the comments below!
