Wishing vs. Commitment

Updated: Feb 12, 2021

We spend most of our lives wishing and longing for things we don't have. We spend our lives wanting a better life rather than enjoying the life we have right now. I want to talk about the difference between wishing and achieving and the different ways they affect us mentally. When we wish for something we focus our attention on something off in the distance, often with obstacles between us and that thing we want. Our mind has made the thing we want seem unattainable and beyond our capacity to reach. Our mind tells us that the world is against us because we can't reach the thing we long for. It is a passive activity that leaves us feeling unfulfilled and victimized. Commitment energy, on the other hand, focuses on what we can achieve. It's a decision that we make that tells us we can bring our hopes and dreams to reality. Commitment energy tells us that the world happens for us, not against us. We can bring our hope to light by making a decision to commit to that thing we want and know that nothing will stand in our way from achieving it. Wishing puts a gap between us and the object we want, while commitment gets rid of the obstacles that stand in our way.

What is one thing you've always wanted but never thought you could achieve?

How can you make a decision today to commit to achieving it?
