Good Morning Everyone! I wanted to reach out and ask you all a favor… As many of you know, I’ve been a runner for many years: about 23 years to be exact! I’m training for the Cap City Half Marathon next month and went on my first 10 miler last night. I did better than I expected, holding a steady pace the entire time. Runners are unique individuals; some people call us crazy and others find us annoying because we can’t sit still or enjoy ourselves if we haven’t had our daily run. I’ve left many parties because I needed to run. I’ve skipped the birthday cake, buffet and countless treats, and used to leave my own piano recital early just so I could run. I’ve dated guys who weren’t into fitness at all and they would insist on sitting inside on a beautiful day to watch nerdy movies; while I pretended to enjoy myself, staring out the window wishing I could be outside. It’s hard to focus on things when all you want to do is run and be in nature. I hate to admit that I became a runner for life because of a guy; but his lack of interest in me actually spurred me on and helped me become a better runner. I’ve used running ever since to get through the hardest of times; times of loneliness, sadness, depression, uncertainty, anxiety, fear and yes, even happy times like joy and peace. I’m just a little embarrassed to admit that I’ve never actually run a marathon before, or even a half marathon; but I have a good feeling about this year. If there ever was a time, this year is it. I feel tremendous support from my run group, which I’ve been a part of for many years, but have recently rejoined with an amazing group of people who have inspired me and made me a better person. It’s appropriate that I was also chosen to be a candidate for Ms. Health and Fitness Magazine; but just because I’ve been chosen as a candidate doesn’t mean I’ll be featured on the cover of the magazine.
