As a Graduate of Bodymechanics and now employee at the school, I love to interview students and learn more about their own personal journey and dreams of the future. Here is an article I wrote about a morning student who will be graduating next month!
Bodymechanics has a mission to help students fulfill their dreams of pursing a career in massage. Shajan Kanacheril, a current student at Bodymechanics opens up about his experience going through massage school, what massage means to him, where he plans to take massage in the future and his desire to help people one massage at a time. Shajan has made a home in the great Pacific North West with his wife and daughter. He has been working as a Physical Therapist Assistant for the past 10 years at Panorama, a skilled nursing facility, and is now pursuing a career in touch therapy as a Massage Therapist. Shajan opens up about his desire to help people, saying:
“I wanted to take a leap and venture into providing touch therapy on my own. I would love to open my own business where I can have autonomy over my schedule and the flexibility that will allow me to spend more time with my family, while helping people who are experiencing dysfunction in their body.” Shajan is passionate about people, and has a desire to help individuals who are confused about their dysfunction, and seeks to help them find a collaborative approach to achieve whole body wellness. Shajan was sold on Bodymechanics at his very first meeting with Shari and the staff. Shajan felt at home right away, as he noticed the schools family atmosphere, and the motivation and passion each Instructor has toward teaching and helping students learn. “I believe the Universe called me to attend Bodymechanics, and I am so grateful to Shari and the staff for giving me this opportunity. I truly believe this will change my life and the countless people I encounter and work with.”
Shajan loves being in an atmosphere of learning, surrounded by likeminded people, who are also interested in providing health and wellness. His favorite class at Bodymechanics is Anatomy, Physiology and Pathology(APP). “The Instructor Dawn Edge is tremendously knowledgeable and passionate about what she teaches. She comes prepared and continuously reviews the information so the students fully comprehend and understand the material.”
Shajan works closely with his classmates to understand how massage can help people manage pain and give them long-lasting relief and marvels at how likeminded and similar we all are. Shajan is motivated and inspired on a daily basis by his big sister, who’s been a practicing physician for the past 20 years. “Like me, she is a true empath, who cares deeply about the people she interacts with on a daily basis and has an internal desire to contribute to peoples wellness.”
Shajan personally likes to receive deeper tissue massage with active stretching, that assists and returns his body to its full potential. When he isn’t attending classes, Shajan enjoys swimming at the Valley Athletic Club, where they have indoor and outdoor pools that are great for swimming laps. He also enjoys talking and engaging with likeminded people.
