Tristyn graduated from Bodymechanics back in 2016 and has been practicing massage ever since. Before deciding to pursue a career in massage, Tristyn was at a crossroads in her life. She was working at a job in retail right out of high school as a way to pay the bills while she figured out what she really wanted to do.
I guess you could say that Bodymechanics called to her, as she would pass by it on her way to work every day. Tristyn has always had a fascination for Anatomy, Physiology and learning about the body and how it works.
She also believes whole-heartedly in the body’s ability to heal itself.
“I’m a big advocate for finding other ways to deal with pain besides covering it up with medication. It’s extremely important to find the source of the pain through underlying issues.”
Tristyn is a native of Washington State, having grown up in the Shelton area, and it was on her commute to and from work that led her to take that first step to pursue a career that would combine her love for the body with the ability to make a generous income and be successful in the process. Tristyn chose Bodymechanics because, she says,
“I enjoyed that it was a smaller school where they specialized in injury treatment. Their approach to massage was so much more than just relaxation, sugar scrubs and aromatherapy that a lot of other schools offered. It focused on learning how to help people who are living with daily pain, and facilitate healing by manipulating the muscles.
While attending Bodymechanics, Tristyn grew to love Lomi Lomi and Thai Massage, which grew to an interest in moving out of Washington State and to some place warm. Her first thought was Hawaii, where the practice of Lomi Lomi massage first originated, but after careful consideration, she settled on Scottsdale, Arizona because its closer to her family, but still warm and has a huge demand for Massage Therapists. It was about two years after graduating from Bodymechanics and working for a local chiropractor, that Tristyn decided to move to Arizona and start her own Mobile Massage business.
“It just made more sense to go into business for myself. I got tired of working for other people and building their dream rather than my own.”
It was also during the beginning stages of her career and business development, that she learned the demands of mobile massage for people who are unable to leave their house, for hosting Bachelorette parties/special events and for new mothers who are unable to find a babysitter, just to name a few. While I was speaking to Tristyn about her experience establishing her own business in a town where she really didn’t have a lot of connections, she stressed the importance of Networking and being around other, like-minded Therapists.
“Other Therapists really helped me through the transitions in my massage career. Being around a bunch of different Therapists who have the same dream, the same goals, and have been successful, is extremely important when you’re just starting out.”
While she was networking with other Therapists and local businesses in the area, Tristyn learned about the potential for success in working Bachelorette parties, and the demand to bring mobile massage to these functions.
“Some parties are small enough to work on my own, while I bring in other Therapists to help with the larger events.”
When Tristyn isn’t working Bachelorette parties, she spends most of her time performing Therapeutic massage for clients with chronic pain and injuries. After moving to Scottsdale, it took Tristyn about 6 months to establish a regular clientele, based primarily on referrals and word-of-mouth. Tristyn says that one of the many reasons she chose to pursue a career in mobile massage rather than having a studio, is because there is a very low overhead cost and its becoming more of a demand for people who are unable to leave their house.
“Getting a massage isn’t necessarily a luxury, but having someone come to your house to give you a massage is. I absolutely love what I do. It gives me the opportunity to make a great income, learn more about the body and help people in the process.”
