Happy Tuesday Everyone!
As we are nearing the end of October and jumping full speed into the holiday season. I want to take some time to reflect and breathe... Now this can mean different things to different people; but in simple terms it is simply taking a break and reflecting; reflecting on what you want, what you need, what worked this past year and what didn't. In my yoga class the other day, it was referred to as a Sacred Pause, and October is known as the perfect time to take this Sacred Pause. Here's why...
October symbolizes a transitional phase. It is the best time for reflection, goal setting, a time to get a jump start on those New Years Resolutions and prime time for making changes in your life.
Here are some simple steps you can take as October comes to a close.
STEPS TO JUMPSTART YOUR 2025 GOALS
Assess your life-- Reflect on what you've accomplished so far and what you still need to work on. The anxious feeling that sometimes comes with goal setting and making lasting change is the very thing that drives us to accomplish them. This type of stress that comes from setting goals is known as Eustress("good stress"), and it works as a motivator, rather than an inhibitor. Instead of paralyzing you with the heaviness of setting a goal, it actually spurs you on and fills you with a sense of hope, positivity and vigor!
Reflect on this past year. Do you wish you'd achieved more? Do you often think about the things that you wish you'd changed? Did you start a resolution last year and not finish it?
Without judgement of the things still left undone, write them down. Don't label or overthink them, just write them down as they come to you.
NOVEMBER: BREATHE LIFE BACK INTO YOUR GOALS.
Take a look at your list and breathe life back into your past goals, wishes and dreams. If you want to make things fun and tangible, cut each one into an individual slip of paper and place in a jar. If you want you can decorate the jar with visual aids that remind you and are a reflection of your goals.
The trick to these goals is to make them: specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound.
DECEMBER: TURN YOUR GOALS INTO HABITS.
Just as bad habits can be hard to break, good habits/goals can take some time to settle in and solidify.
The average number of days it takes a person to form a habit is 66 days, but it could take less time, or much longer, depending on the person. The secret to goal setting is to enjoy the journey along the way. Its not something to shy away from or be afraid or intimidated by... it can be a fun and transformative experience that has the potential to put you into a 'flow state.'
A flow state is an enjoyable state of mind that occurs when you feel optimally challenged and are fully absorbed in the moment and the task at hand.
Honestly, a flow state sounds like a lovely way to enjoy your day. It's the same feeling I get when I'm writing, or when I'm giving someone a massage or on a run. Each of these activities has a beginning, an end, and a lot of puzzles to solve along the way. The puzzle portion of these activities is honestly the best part of them, because you're problem-solving and using your body and intellect in creative ways. This is what the last three months of the year should be about: solving the puzzles that help you transform your life and make changes that will create a better version of yourself 🧡
