Childhood Wonderment

Good Morning Everyone,

I've been thinking a lot lately about the experience and stimulation of trying new things... which made me think about how a child experiences something new every day. As adults, we have lost that sense of wonder, that sense of excitement and joy in new and simple things. As adults we are obsessed with counting things: counting the minutes we have to be stuck somewhere, counting our steps, counting our calories, keeping track of countless obligations and tasks that fill our days.

A child lives in the moment, experiencing the things around them with a brand new set of eyes.

A year to a 5 year old is 20% of their life, whereas 20% of an adults life covers so many more milestones. This gives time less meaning in a way to an adult because they are acutely aware of how fleeting time really is; time is passing by faster than we can keep up. This is why it's even more important to slow down and live in the present moment and really take it in with all our senses. When we slow down, we actually absorb the moment more completely, as our senses have time to adapt to our environment ✨️ When we try something new: a new exercise, travel to a new place, even try different kinds of food, we can live that same kind of curiosity and wonderment that a child experiences every day. This actually stimulates our brain and heightens all our senses as we learn and absorb something new. It's exciting, challenging and will leave us with a heightened state of happiness and creativity at branching out from our mundane routine and the societal pressures to be the same as everyone else. Even if you try something new and fail, you are still stimulated in a way that gives you a feeling of autonomy and freedom!

This week I challenge you to embark on adventures you used to fear and find wonder and beauty in the simple things; the things you've tuned-out and forgotten as an adult. Embrace the moments that take your breath away 💗
