This week has been very busy and kinda stressful, so I decided to schedule in some SelfCare for myself <3
I think a lot of people disregard relaxation and take for granted the value of that time you set aside for yourself. It’s important to immerse ourselves in silence sometimes, to shut off the noise and constant demands that surround us every day. It’s even important to quiet our own inner voice that is constantly commanding us to do things, or reiterating the lies that society tells us: that we’re not enough, that we’re falling short, that there’s something wrong with us because we stand out from the crowd, or even just pressure to be the same as everyone else… Whatever it is, it is important to shut out the noise. So I set aside an hour Friday night to escape from my own inner pressures and find my Center. I went in for a Lomi Lomi/Relaxation massage and it was just what I needed! I had been massaging a lot this past week, and was feeling some dysfunction in my body; along with that, giving massage is not only physically draining but emotionally draining as well. So taking time to release these things is extremely important for overall health and wellness. The kind of massage I received reflects the rhythm of the ocean and, like many humans, I find solace and peace when I’m near water. I spent the rest of the evening reflecting on how humans are drawn to the ocean and how we find peace and balance within the rhythm of the waves. I was thinking a lot after the massage,(because when we receive massage the benefits last far longer than the hour we’re on the table), and I was reflecting on how there’s a controlled chaos that comes with finding balance within ourselves. If we’re too regimented and too controlled, we cannot be open to those around us or even to ourselves, and if we’re too chaotic we lack the stability we need to find our strength and be grounded. There has to be a balance of the two things; a unity that flows in and out of us; much like the beautiful chaos that is found within the rhythm of ocean waves. The way the waves rumble over sand and crash against rocks, and the way the sound hits our ears, can send us into a state of meditation and reflection. How do you escape from the demands of life and find balance in your life? Have you ever received a massage and what was your experience? Share your story!
